    Arrest all culprits behind attack on Hindus in Khulna

    The participants of a human chain in Khulna yesterday protested the recent attack on Hindus, their houses and places of worship in the district.

    Bangladesh Hindu Buddha Christian Oikya Parishad, Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mohajote, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote and other organisations formed the human chain at the city’s Picture Palace intersection.

    They also brought out a procession there, demanding arrest of all who are the mastermind and committed the heinous acts.

    The demonstrators also sought removal of the police camp in Ghatvog union as the law enforcers from there did not take any action during the attack.

    Addressing the human chain, Md Babul Rana, general secretary of Khulna city unit of AL, said police already arrested some of the attackers. He urged the law enforcers to apprehend those who are on the run.

    Krishnapada Das, president of Khulna Puja Udjapan Parishad, said the government should take action against them who are tarnishing the country’s image of communal harmony.

    Proshanta Kundu, secretary of Puja Udjapan Parishad, Khulna unit; Shayman Halder, its former secretary; Nimai Chandra Roy, former trustee of Hindu Kalyan Trust, spoke at the event.

    On Saturday night, miscreants, armed with sharp weapons, launched the attack at Shiyali village in Rupsha, Khulna. They vandalised and ransacked several houses, shops and five temples of Hindus.

    Mohammad Mahbub Hasan, superintendent of police in Khulna, said the situation is now under control. Additional police were deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

    He said 11 persons were arrested afterSoktipad Boshu, president of Rupsha Upazila Puja Udjapan Committee, filed a case withRupsha Police Station on that night, accusing 24 named and 150 to 250 unnamed persons of committing the violence.
