Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad and other religious minority organisations jointly brought out a procession across the country today demanding immediate resignation of Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen over his statement on the recent attack on Hindu houses, temples and shops across the country during the Durga Puja.
They staged a demonstration protesting a statement made by the minister on October 31 over recent communal attacks in the country, said a press release.
Before the procession, the protesters held rallies in the press clubs in Dhaka and Chattogram where the minority leaders placed a statement alleging that the foreign minister termed the attack incidents as “ongoing propaganda” on October 28.
They also alleged that the minister said, “no temples were damaged during the attacks. Twenty houses have been torched during the recent incidents.”
In Dhaka, the statement was read out by Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad General Secretary and convener Manindra Kumar Nath.
While reading out the statement, he said, “Four people were killed in police firing and five Hindus were murdered, and a total of 117 temples and puja mandaps, 301 houses and establishments were damaged in 27 districts between October 13 to November 1.”
The “untruth” remarks made by the foreign minister on October 28 damaged the image of Bangladesh before the entire world, the leader said.
So, they demanded immediate resignation of the minister, he added.
His remarks made Bangladesh “questionable” across the world while the prime minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader gave the incidents importance, placing their valuable comments, they claimed.
Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad, Bangladesh Christian Association, Bangladesh Buddhist Federation, Bangladesh Adibasi Forum, Jatitya Hindu Mohajot (Palash), Jatiya Hindu Mohajot (Dr Sonali), Iscon, Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Somaj Songskar Samity, Jagannath Hall Alumni Association, Sri Sri Bholanondogiri Ashram Trust, Bangladesh Hindu League, Bangladesh Hrishi Panchayet Forum, and Bangladesh Harijon Oikya Parishad took part in the procession.
