Five Proteas stars have put the Indian Premier League (IPL) before representing their country in two Tests against Bangladesh later this month.

Proteas Test skipper Dean Elgar – who does not have an IPL contract – said on his arrival from New Zealand that the choice between Test duty and the IPL will test the loyalty of his players.

Markram’s absence has been offset in part by the return of top-order batsman Keegan Petersen.

Duanne Olivier is as the most experienced fast bowler in the squad with Lutho Sipamla, Glenton Stuurman, Wiaan Mulder and Daryn Dupavillon providing support.
The spin department remains unaffected with both Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer included.
Cricket South Africa’s current MOU with SACA states that CSA is not at liberty to refuse players the opportunity to take part in the IPL, as CSA and SACA look to balance the livelihoods and opportunities of players and their national duties.
CSA convenor of selectors Victor Mpitsang said they’ll simply have to find a way to cope without their IPL contingent.
“The loss of the IPL players is not ideal, but we back the CSA system, its ever growing pipeline and most of all, the players we have selected,” Mpitsang said.
“Every member of the team is selected based on the excellence that they have shown over an extended period of time.
“There is no better opportunity for them than now, to show us what they have to offer the Proteas on this highly anticipated occasion.”
The first Test will take place at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead from 31 March to 4 April while the second and final clash is scheduled for St George’s Park in Gqeberha from 8-12 April.
