Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah on Thursday set a new date for the submission of the report
A Dhaka court has fixed February 3 for the submission of the probe report in the sedition cases lodged against Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Maolana Muhammad Mamunul Haque, Islami Andolon Bangladesh chief Syed Fazlul Karim and Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Junayed Babunagari, over their anti-sculpture remarks.
A case was scheduled to be initiated on Thursday but the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) did not file a report.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah set a new date for the submission of the report.
Earlier on December 7, a Dhaka court asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit a probe report within January 7 in two sedition cases filed against Hefazat-e Islam’s Ameer Junaid Babunagari, Joint Secretary Mamunul Haque and Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Sayed Faizul Karim.
It may be recalled that on November 13, Islami Andolan Bangladesh Nayeb-e-Ameer Faizul Karim and Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque made comments in public opposing the installation of sculptures of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Later on December 5, miscreants smashed an under-construction sculpture of Bangabandhu in Kushtia city. The face and arms of the sculpture were vandalized.
The incident took place in Kushtia amid protests by various Islamist organizations across the country over the construction of Bangabandhu’s sculptures.
On December 7, a High Court bench ordered the authorities concerned to take proper measures to ensure the security of all sculptures of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman across the country.
On December 9, a defamation case was filed against former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on allegations of their helping anti-sculpture protestors.
Hefazat-e Islam’s Ameer Junaid Babunagari, Joint Secretary Mamunul Haque and Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Sayed Faizul Karim were also included in this case.
