Briefs: Turning Point receives family violence prevention grant

Local organization receives grant to support victims of family violence

COLUMBUS — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced over $2.5 million in grants for victim service agencies to support victims of family violence, domestic violence and dating violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. Concerned Citizens Against Violence Against Women Inc. (Turning Point) in Marion will receive a grant for $87,772.55.

The funding comes from the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) supplemental funding federal grant program. In total, 42 grants were awarded to 40 local agencies in 35 counties.

Funding will support the establishment, maintenance and expansion of programs that prevent incidents of violence, provide shelter and support services, and provide specialized services for children who are exposed to domestic violence, underserved populations and victims who are members of racial and ethnic minority populations.

AARP Ohio accepting 2022 Community Challenge grant applications

COLUMBUS — AARP Ohio invites local organizations and governments across the state to apply for the 2022 AARP Community Challenge grant program, now through March 22. Grants fund quick-action projects that help communities become more livable in the long-term by improving public spaces, transportation, housing, civic engagement, coronavirus recovery, diversity and inclusion and more. Now in its sixth year, the grant program is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts of cities, towns, neighborhoods and rural areas to become great places to live.

Since 2017, AARP has awarded over 800 grants — including 24 in Ohio — through the Community Challenge. The Community Challenge is open to 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4) and 501(c)(6) nonprofits and government entities. Grants can range from several hundred dollars for small, short-term activities to tens of thousands for larger projects.

All projects must be completed by Nov. 30. To submit an application and view past grantees, visit AARP.org/CommunityChallenge.
