Indian president Ram Nath Kovind left Dhaka for New Delhi on Friday afternoon after wrapping up his eventful three-day state visit.
Foreign minister AK Abdul Momen saw the indian President off at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 12:45pm.
Kovind came to Dhaka on Wednesday on a three-day visit to join the birth centenary celebrations of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Golden Jubilee celebration of Bangladesh’s Independence.
Earlier on the day, Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the newly refurbished building of Ramna Kali Mandir in the capital.
He inaugurated the renovated building this morning by unveiling a plaque. The Indian president also offered puja at the temple.
He also exchanged greetings with the invited guests, the temple committee members, representatives of Hindu community and the devotees.
State minister for religious affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan received the Indian president at the temple. Kovind was welcomed at the temple by blowing of conch-shell as per the Hindu ritual on the occasion.
On Thursday, visiting Indian president Ram Nath Kovind paid rich tributes to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman recalling that being a youth over 50 years ago he was ‘electrified’ by Bangladesh founder’s powerful voice.
‘I remember that I was inspired, as a youth, by the moral courage of Bangabandhu. Like millions of others, I was electrified by his powerful voice, and the understanding that it carried the aspirations of 70 million people of Bangladesh at that time,’ he said.
Kovind added, ‘Like millions of Indians of my generation, we were elated by the victory of Bangladesh over an oppressive regime and were deeply inspired by the faith and courage of the people of Bangladesh.’
Bangladesh president Md Abdul Hamid addressed the event as the chief guest while prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s younger daughter Sheikh Rehana presented a Shraddha Smarak ‘Mujib Chirantan’ to the Indian president.
Visiting Indian president on Wednesday expressed his eagerness to increase the existing trade and business ties with Bangladesh through joint-efforts as he paid a courtesy call on his Bangladesh counterpart M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in the evening.
‘The communications between the two countries became closer in land, air and riverine routes . . . investors of both the sides should use the facilities for increase trade and business relations,’ a Bangabhaban spokesman quoted Kovind as saying after the talks, followed by a state banquet.
According to Bangladesh president’s press secretary M Joynal Abedin, Kovind assured his counterpart of continued Indian cooperation to the ongoing business investment and different development projects in coming days.
Earlier on the day, prime minister Sheikh Hasina paid a courtesy call on the visiting Indian president at his suite in Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.
PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed newsmen after the meeting.
The Indian president also told the Bangladesh prime minister that he felt very happy to be part of the celebrations of three mega events.
‘I am very happy to be present on this occasion when Bangladesh is celebrating three events — birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence and diplomatic relationship between the countries,’ she said.
