Jakaria Noman Faizy
A rape case has been filed against Bangladesh Islamist leader Jakaria Noman Faizy.
He was the central publicity secretary of the dissolved committee of Hefazat-e-Islam.
He is accused of raping a woman for more than a year at Hathazari in Chattogram.
The 25-year old woman filed the case with Hathazari police station in Chattogram at about 1:00am Friday, Chattogram district superintendent of police SM Rashidul Hoque told New Age.
‘The woman mentioned in the complaint that Jakaria raped her tempting to marry her from November 2019 keeping her at a rented house in Hathazari,’ he said.
‘Jakaria raped the woman several times taking her to different residential hotels, she mentioned,’ the SP said.
‘As Jakaria has already been arrested, we would show him arrested in the rape case. He would be interrogated,’ he said.
The police on Wednesday arrested Hefazat-e-Islam leader Jakaria at Cox’s Bazar for his alleged involvement in recent violence during anti-Modi protest at Hathazari in Chattogram.
A Chattogram court on Thursday afternoon put Jakaria Noman Faizy on five-day remand. Judge Shariar Iqbal of Chattogram senior judicial magistrate court granted the remand, said SM Rashidul Hoque on Thursday at a press breifing.
SP SM Rashidul Hoque said at the breifing that after analysing mobile phone of Jakaria Noman Faizy they came to know that he had extra-marital affairs with three women in Chattogram.
‘We’ve got the chat history and messages while checking his mobile phone. Jakaria also admitted the matter while interrogating. He felt ashamed of such type of activities,’ he said.
However, Jakaria’s lawyer Mohammad Nezam Uddin Nizam told New Age that his client was innocent.
