Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Maulana Muhammad Salahuddin died of old-age complications at around 4:00pm at a hospital in Dhaka on Thursday. He was 78.
Confirming his death in press release, Islamic Foundation said, Salahuddin left behind his wife, son, three daughters and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death.
He joined as the Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in 2009 and performed his duty with honesty and devotion, the release added.
Salahuddin was born on November 1, 1944.
Religious Affairs Ministry senior information officer Anwar Hossain said, his first namaz-e-janaza will be held today at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after jumma prayers and his second namaz-e-janaza will be held at Zigatola.
He will be buried in Mirpur following his third namaz-e-janaza at Monipur, Mirpur.
Maulana Salahuddin joined Dhaka Government Alia Madrassah as a teacher in 1965 and retired as Head Maulana of the madrassah in 2001.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Salahuddin, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
State minister for religious affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan also expressed deep shock and sorrows at the death of the National Mosque Khatib.
Islamic Foundation board of governors and its director general expressed deep shock at the death of Maulana Muhammad Salahuddin and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
